This July, our inaugural resident class will relocate to Indiana from Texas and New Jersey! These physicians have committed to an additional 7 years of training in the specialty area of neurosurgery. Neurosurgery residency is an intense and comprehensive training period focusing on the brain, spine, and entire nervous system.
Both Dr. Anthony Dragun and Dr. Geoff O’Malley selected this subspecialty for a number of reasons. Dr. O’Malley has been interested in neurosurgery since high school. Dr. Dragun started as an oil reservoir engineer, believing he wanted to be in the oil and gas industry, but realized it wasn’t for him.
Dr. Dragun has an interest in spine surgery and deformity correction as well as brain cancers. His hobbies include playing piano and enjoying outdoor activities, cooking and reading. He is excited to live outside of Texas and “looks forward to moving to Indianapolis and learning what having four seasons is truly like.”
Dr. O’Malley is interested in neurotrauma, outcomes, and health care policy. His hobbies include golfing, running, crossfit, and lacrosse. He looks forward to completing the Pete Dye Golf Trail and “having heard great things about the food in Indianapolis, I’m excited to try a pork tenderloin sandwich and especially the shrimp cocktail at St. Elmo’s.”

Both residents expressed that this is a great honor and responsibility, being the first residents in the neurosurgery program. They are excited for the opportunity, both in terms of training as well as helping to shape the culture of the residency. Drs. Dragun and O’Malley are committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate and superior care to each patient.
We are excited to see all that they accomplish during their residency!
