Dr. Vincent Alentado obtained his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine with honors in research. He went on to complete his residency in neurosurgery at Indiana University. After completing a complex spinal surgery fellowship, he has joined Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine as a neurosurgeon specializing in complex spinal disorders.
When starting medical school, Dr. Alentado planned to specialize in orthopedic surgery. However, after working with a spine surgeon during his first few years of medical school, he became integrated into the department of neurosurgery. While researching neurosurgery training programs in medical school, his classmate (a neurosurgery resident), recommended that he spend time with Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine. He felt that Goodman Campbell was the best training program in the region. Dr. Alentado states, “By the end of the first day with Goodman Campbell, I knew he was right! I was fortunate enough to go on to become a resident and work with Goodman Campbell and my respect for the surgeons and practice only grew. I can unquestionably state that the number one goal of the practice is to provide high-quality neurosurgical care for patients. After seeing this firsthand as a resident, it was an easy decision for me to join the group.”
Some of Dr. Alentado’s hopes for the future of spine surgery include working on leveraging large datasets to determine optimal approaches for patients. By studying patient reported outcomes, he believes we can better track the recovery progression and improve the information provided to patients in their decision making. Dr. Alentado shares, “There are few institutions nationally that can claim such high-quality datasets for spine surgery patients. This needs to change, and Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine will certainly be a leader in advancing neurosurgery data collection efforts.”
When he is not working, you can find him spending time with his wife and two daughters. They love watching college football (Go Irish!) and spending time outside. He also enjoys exercising and reading books.
