Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine launched a very successful Summer Intern Program this year. Six students worked in the Carmel office and five students worked remotely on a variety of projects including gathering data for Goodman Campbell’s Quality Registry program, collecting radiographic measurements on registry patients, and tackling multiple research projects.
In addition, the students were provided with many opportunities for organized (and impromptu) learning from our providers! Drs. Carl Sartorius, Vincent Alentado, Jean-Pierre Mobasser and Eric Potts presented multiple topics to the students and Michael English, PA-C offered an impromptu educational session which included answering questions from a providers’ perspective.
Not only are the research interns learning to read spinal radiographs and learning about surgical technique, they are also working to further enhance our large database of spine surgery patients. This will allow us to easily compare outcomes between surgical techniques and instrumentation, as well as identify predictors for outcomes after surgical intervention.
Summer intern Nico Neher stated, “Working at Goodman Campbell this summer has proven to be the best way I could have spent my summer between my MS1 and MS2 years! The team members that I have interacted with have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. This experience has provided numerous opportunities to explore research topics, shadow and learn from physicians, and gain exposure to the neurosurgical field. Iâm looking forward to continuing my research with GCBS through the upcoming school year and would highly recommend a summer internship here with anyone looking to learn more about the field.”
“These students are enthusiastic, hard-working, and have truly connected and engaged with their work, the practice, and each other. They have been an absolute joy to work with,” shared Rachel Sickmeier, Quality Registry Manager. Dr. Alentado added “…And their motivation and independence in tackling problems has been commendable.”
Thank you for all you’ve done and we hope to see you next year!
