Today, the degree of injury, progression of disease, and course of treatment can all be identified with the same powerful technique. In less than 30 years, the MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) has revolutionized the way physicians diagnose injury and illness. This unique body scan is painless and perfectly safe and Goodman Campbell neuroradiologists are onsite to interpret and discuss results almost immediately.
An MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) scan allows physicians to see the inside of the body in high-definition, without the use of x-rays. It is a safe and painless procedure. Patients lie flat on the MRI table as a magnetic tube rotates around them. Radio waves from this large, powerful magnet send signals to the body and back to a computer for imaging. The MRI technology at Goodman Campbell is the most advanced available, with the highest image quality in the state, large patient openings for maximum comfort, and a fast, outpatient scan that lasts an average of just 30-45 minutes.
High-quality, 2- and 3-D images of different parts of the body make it possible to diagnose specific injuries, tissue abnormalities, and conditions with incredible clinical accuracy. Because an MRI scanner can perform 360 degree imaging, difficult to reach areas are captured with high clarity and contrast.
Our neuroradiologists use MRI scans to diagnose and evaluate multiple sclerosis (MS), tumors of the brain, blood vessel abnormalities in the neck or brain, infections in the brain, spine, or joints, strokes in the earliest stages, the integrity of the spinal cord after trauma, bone tumors, cysts, and bulging or herniated discs in the spine.
For most patients, MRI is perfectly safe. However, patients with implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers, or metal close to or in critical organs are often not candidates for MRI. Prior to the scan, patients are thoroughly interviewed and examined by a physician and radiologist to determine if MRI is the most suitable and safe option.
Almost immediately. Our MRI technology allows for instant computer access to images. Our neuroradiologists are the most experienced in the state and are onsite to interpret and discuss results with physicians and patients.
